MicroscopeWith thousands of specimens analyzed each day across the Edward-Elmhurst system, state-of-the-art technology is essential to process specimens quickly while ensuring accuracy. Funded by contributions to Edward Foundation, 10 new digital microscope cameras from Olympus were purchased for Edward Labs.

The improved cameras yield 4K ultra- high resolution digital images with a wide magnification range. Unlike previous devices, the new cameras allow for increased magnification without a decrease in clarity.

Associated software is packed with features allowing clinicians to inspect slides in real-time from remote locations. When interacting with live images, sample analysis and consultations can happen instantly, providing results to patients faster. Doctors can navigate and jointly discuss complex images remotely via computer monitor to ensure accurate disease detection and diagnosis.

Though the integration of digital microscopy is not new to healthcare, technological advancements and updated equipment provide improved clarity and processing speed while opening the door to exciting future benefits including the introduction of artificial intelligence to assist in the Lab’s work.

As laboratory services are integral to the treatment of many of Edward’s patients, the new cameras are an excellent example of how philanthropy is advancing Edward Hospital’s drive to transform the healthcare experience and provide safe, seamless and personal care.
